Cabela's tends to build their stores in popular traffic areas, as opposed to densely populated centres. Some of their biggest stores are a good hour drive from ANY city. But, strategically located within a few hours drive from 2 or 3 larger metro areas. Their philosophy, is the proverbial "If we build it, they will come" and it has proven correct for them in the past.

When Cabela's bought SIR, they established what could be used as a distribution center for a future Canadian store.

In the mean time, it will be the mail-order hub for Canada. The reason they bought the Winnipeg store, is LOCATION. Very accesible from the heavily populated Great Lakes area/border crossings, other US Cabela's stores, and a hub of major truck routes. I highly doubt they will ever build a big store in Winnipeg, though.

Here's my guess- when and if Cabela's decides to build a store in Canada it will either be;
(1) somewhere in Ontario, East of Toronto, towards Montreal.
