Gill was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire,^[1] on 5 January ^[2] She is of IndianPunjabi descent,^[3] and is a Sikh.^[4] Growing up on a council estate in the suburb of Middleton, where her parents owned a newsagents, she attended a primary school in the area before enrolling in Cockburn School.
